This is a video made from the 2nd production of
The Red Button, directed by
Lee Shakleford (Master
playwright/scriptwriter/thespian/Instructor
and all around fantastic and inspirational
teacher) as part of the University of Alabama at
Birmingham's
(UAB) 2004 10 Minute Play Festival. The
piece was developed in Lee's play writing class
and featured Ethan Feigel and Rafael Rios. The
focus was set on auto so it drops in and out and
the characters move out of the spot from time to
time, but it gives one a good sense of how the
play looks (or can look) onstage. Lee used a
much larger button than I had envisioned but it
worked so brilliantly that I cannot complain. He
did an excellent job and I am very grateful to
him for it.
The 10 Minute Play Festival is an annual event
developed and currently directed by
Lee
Shakleford featuring short scripts written
by
UAB's Department of Theater students. If you
are thinking of becoming a theater major at UAB
or just taking a few play and script writing
classes, I highly recommend those taught by Lee.
He is an amazing instructor and I owe much of my
play writing skills to him.
